Hi my name is Derek Read I am the dedicated Manager, for Ashley Adams Homes Abroad.
I have over 20 years experience of the overseas property market, which dates back to when I bought our first family holiday apartment in 1986, located south of Alicante on the Costa Blanca. For over 10 years we used our apartment extensively visiting several times a year during which time we made a number of good friends particularly Spanish as we had made an effort to learn the language. This gave us an enormous amount of quailty family time and therefore I have no hesitation in recommending clients to buy a holiday home.
In 1997 my wife and I moved to Spain to live full time and bought a new Villa in an established residential area where we lived until returning to the UK due to elderly family commitments at the end of 2004. As soon as we arrived in Spain we obtained our official Tarjeta de Residencia (resident's card) which embedded us legally into the Spanish system for taxes etc. and requiring us to hold Spanish driving licences.
In 1999 I began working for a Spanish estate agent in their head office. However, I quickly became involved in dealing with clients of all nationalities on a daily basis handling both new and resale properties and frequently accompanied clients to the Notary to complete their purchase. I also took over the responsibility for negotiating and arranging mortgages with the CAM bank for our clients from all five of our offices. In addition I also handled the property inspection, valuation and listing of the resale properties within the head office area and subsequently viewed those properties with local people and clients like you from the UK on inspection visits.
Having initially bought a holiday home, as many of our clients today are considering and additionally having lived and worked in Spain with experience of the Spanish tax and legal system I feel that I am better able to advise and assist my clients to ensure that they get the best deal possible when buying a property overseas. With this in mind, I am able to utilise and recommend agents and developers that in some cases I know personally to make sure that you receive the highest standard of service that all of our customer have come to expect from Ashley Adams.
